The service

When the catalogue ends, we start.

Some jobs do not have a part number. A sea cucumber dredge on a five-bar steel frame. A recovery net on an aluminium frame for a survey vessel. A pot for a species nobody has fished at scale before. We scope it, build it in steel, rope, netting or canvas, and prove it where it works — on the vessel and in the fishery it was built for, or at model scale in the flume tank where the design calls for it.

Behind that is forty years of gear development with harvesters, government and academia in Atlantic Canada, a technical team that works under non-disclosure when the job needs it, and four shops that can each build their part.

    Sea cucumber dredges built here on a five-bar heavy-duty steel frame; scallop and mini dredges to order; frames repaired and re-netted.

  2. Pots

    Cod, crab, lobster and whelk pots, standard or customised — built for commercial fishing, to the fishery and the vessel that hauls them.

  3. Recovery and safety nets

    Netted frames for man-overboard recovery, scramble nets, and safety netting to the vessel's rail.

    Steel and aluminium frames netted to purpose — sorting grids, holding, sampling, protection.

Built here

Our name is welded into it.

None of these is a stock photograph. The first frame has Hampidjan Canada welded into the steel — and every one of them was built, netted or rigged in one of our own shops.

Fully manufactured on site on a five-bar, heavy-duty steel frame, netted in the loft, and built to the requirements of the fishery — measured, not eyeballed. Frames come back here for repair and re-netting too.

Built to the vessel

The same job in different materials — three-strand synthetic side ropes, ribbed hardwood steps and metal ferrules setting the spacing. Length and step count are built to the vessel rather than to a stock size.

Built on the floor

Steel, aluminium, rope and netting on the same floor, so a frame can be welded, netted and rigged without leaving the building — and modified when the first trip shows what it needs.

Pots to order

Cod, crab, lobster and whelk. Standard designs from stock, or a pot built and customised to your fishery — working gear for commercial trips, made to the species, the ground and the vessel that hauls it.

Proved at sea

A pot built here, coming up full on a working trip. That is the standard the gear is built to: it has to fish, on a commercial vessel, in the fishery it was made for.

What you get back

The thing itself — built, proven, and yours.

A one-off leaves here as working gear, not a drawing. It has been fitted, fished or put under load before we call it finished — and modelled first where the design called for it.

Where it pays to know. Scaled trawl models in the flume tank before the full-size gear is cut, and — for rigging and lifting assemblies — proof testing on our own 500,000 lb bed. Everything else is proven the way working gear is proven: fitted, fished and modified in service.
