Why us, for this

Anybody can sell you a sling. Very few can pull it to destruction.

A lifting assembly is only worth the number attached to it, and most suppliers get that number from a table. We have a 500,000 lb horizontal test bed running the length of a bay in our own building at Paradise — so an assembly we make can be proof tested here, by us, before it leaves, and the figure on the certificate is one we watched on the trace.

Around the bed sit the trades that make the thing in the first place: wire rope cut, spliced by hand or clamped in the press; fabrication in steel, aluminium and Hardox; and a hands-on inspection service that takes gear in at four counters. We are careful about what we claim — we issue a test certificate for each item we test, and we make no claim of external approval for the business itself.

Not a marine list. These are industrial trades that happen to sit beside a harbour.

  1. Custom lifting and rigging assemblies

    Wire rope and synthetic assemblies made to a length and a load — slings, stays, bridles and one-offs, built to your specification rather than picked from a size chart.

  2. Terminations both ways

    Hand splicing in all dimensions where an inspectable termination matters, and ferrules clamped in our own press where a mechanical one is right.

  3. Proof testing to 500,000 lb

    A horizontal bed running the length of the bay, with a controller that records the run — specimen, length and load limits entered, the load trace alongside.

  4. Periodic inspection programmes

    Gear taken in by the crate, inspected item by item, logged, tagged and returned — so lifting equipment can be managed as a programme with a record rather than a memory.

  5. Fabrication in steel, aluminium and Hardox

    Frames, brackets, guards, gratings, bins and wear parts — cut, welded and finished, from your drawing or from the worn-out original.

  6. Repair and refurbishment

    Steel that goes back to work: hardware refurbished, frames rebuilt, wear surfaces replaced — usually faster and cheaper than replacement.

  7. Worksite supply

    Wire rope, chain, shackles, hooks, blocks, swivels, slings and PPE off the counter at four branches, with assemblies made up alongside.

  8. Industrial netting and canvas

    Barrier and cargo netting, protective covers, tarps and enclosures — including customised canvas for industrial and scientific applications.

We issue a test certificate for each item we test. That is a document about your item; it is not a claim of external approval of this company, and we do not make one.

The equipment

Proper nouns, not adjectives.

"In-house testing" is a claim. A 500,000 lb bed with a controller and a load trace is an argument. This is the equipment the service actually runs on.

Back to work

Made up to the load

Development

The bed is also how a prototype gets settled.

The same equipment that verifies a production assembly is what makes development possible: build the thing, load it, and find out. This company has a technical team working on applied research and commercial development, and consults for industry, government and academia on technical problems in rope, wire and the construction of prototypes.

New and emerging technology is sensitive by nature, and we are fully agreeable to working under non-disclosure and confidentiality terms.

We have a horizontal test bed with capacity to 500,000 lb, running the length of a bay at our Paradise building. It is long enough to rig a full assembly out straight, which is how the assembly is loaded in service. Inspection is hands-on first; the bed is used when the job earns it.

A test certificate for each item tested, stating what was tested and to what load, and gear returned tagged after inspection. Reports or documentation are available as applicable for site inspection. To be exact about what that is: it is our document about your item, not a claim of external approval of this company.

No, and we will not imply otherwise. What we have is our own equipment, our own inspectors and a document that records what we did. If your programme requires third-party approval, we will tell you plainly that this is not that, so you can plan around it.

Yes. Gear comes in by the crate, is inspected item by item, logged and tagged, and goes back. Any of the four branches can take it in, and it moves to the bed internally rather than being freighted by you.

To your specification. Wire rope and synthetic assemblies are cut to length and terminated by hand splice or clamped in our own press, with the fittings made up here. Splice loss is accounted for in the sizing, and the assembly can be proof tested before it leaves.

Yes. Lifting, rigging, fabrication and worksite supply are industrial trades; the harbour is just where our shops happen to be. Barrier and cargo netting, protective covers and customised canvas for industrial and scientific applications come from the same shops.

That is a line of work rather than a favour. One-offs and prototypes are built in steel, rope, netting or canvas — from your drawing, a sketch, or the part that failed — and verified on our own bed where that is what settles it. Non-disclosure terms are normal for this work.

Made-to-order assemblies are cut, terminated and tested in one building, which removes the usual wait for an outside test house. Tell us the date it has to be on site and we will plan back from it and tell you honestly whether it works.
